Also an artist and writer, at the time of the exhibition Jennings was an almost forgotten pioneer of documentary film – although footage of wartime Britain has been relentlessly pillaged, recognisable in scores of TV histories. Pages of the book were assembled as “camera-ready” artwork, with bromides of the images and photoset text pasted in position.
